I recently visited and loved the designs of each of these buildings so much that I had to share them with you! Here are 3 buildings in Johannesburg, South Africa every fan of modern architecture should see!

The Carlton Centre

The Carlton Centre is a skyscraper and shopping mall located in the central business district of Johannesburg, South Africa. At 223 metres (732 feet), it is the tallest building in Africa and the fifth-tallest building in the world. The Carlton Centre has been a landmark in Johannesburg since 1973 and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. If you’re a fan of modern architecture, the Carlton Centre is a must-see.

Designed by renowned American architect Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), construction on the Carlton Centre began in 1970 and was completed in 1973. The name was given to honour former Prime Minister John Huggins, 1st Viscount Addison who died a few months before its completion. Today it is one of Johannesburg’s most famous landmarks and it has also become an important piece of African culture.

The Hillbrow Tower

The Hillbrow Tower is a skyscraper in Johannesburg, South Africa. The tower is 280 meters (920 feet) tall and has 74 floors. It was the tallest building in Africa from 1976 to 1978. The tower has a unique design that makes it look like it’s constantly changing shape. The Hillbrow Tower is a must-see for any fan of modern architecture.
