Maboneng Precinct: A Johannesburg Hidden Gem

In the early 2000s, Johannesburg was in decline, with crime, pollution and poor economic conditions causing many residents to move away. However, in recent years the city has seen an increase in development, with the creative hub of Maboneng Precinct being one of its new focal points. Here are four other hidden gems in Johannesburg to enjoy when you visit this South African city.

Maboneng Precinct
The name of an urban district in Johannesburg is Maboneng Precinct. The location is a hidden gem for a number of reasons, but its street art and the greatest nightlife in the entire city are undoubtedly the most interesting. Maboneng has become a major tourist attraction in South Africa and continues to grow each year. One would think that one of these attractions might be the Jozi Contemporary Art Museum, which houses a huge collection of contemporary African art that has never been seen before outside Africa, but this isn’t the case at all.

Satyagraha House

Satyagraha House appears to be a typical home from the outside. However, because Mahatma Gandhi formerly owned the location, it has unique significance. Between 1908 and 1909, the prominent politician and spiritual guide resided and worked here. Gandhi’s time in South Africa is now chronicled at a museum housed in the former residence. Some of the Satyagraha House’s rooms can be reserved by guests as well. These spaces are available for nightly or weekly rentals. Visitors can find this historic place located on 75 Hillbrow Street.
