Yokohama, Japan is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, and it boasts some unique attractions that keep tourists coming back again and again. Edo-Tokyo Museum

The Edo-Tokyo Museum is a must-see for foodies visiting Yokohama. This museum tells the story of Tokyo’s culinary history, from the Edo period to present day. You’ll learn about traditional Japanese dishes, as well as how modern Japanese cuisine has been influenced by other cultures. The museum also has a cafe where you can try some of the dishes you’ve learned about.

Mikimoto Pearl Island

A local businessman named Mikimoto Kikichi was successful in cultivating cultivated pearls on the island of Ojima in Ise Bay in 1893. The island was sold by the town of Toba in 1919 to Teikoku Kisen Shipping Company, but Toba later bought it back. In 1929, it was sold again to Mikimoto Kichi, who used the proceeds to start an elementary school. The island was expanded by Mikimoto to serve as a hub for pearl manufacturing.
Mikimoto changed the name of the island to Mikimoto Pearl Island in 1951 and founded a business to promote tourism there. A Mikimoto Life Commemorative Museum opened its doors in 1958, followed by the Pearl Museum in 1962. In 1970, a bridge linking the island to the mainland was finished.

In 1985, the Pearl Museum was rebuilt, then in 1993, the Mikimoto Museum.
