Reasons to Plan Your Next Vacation in Mauritius

If you’re thinking about planning your next vacation, Mauritius might be the destination of choice if you’re looking to get as close to paradise as possible without leaving the mainland. With crystal-clear blue water, tropical foliage and beaches that rival those of Hawaii and the Caribbean, Mauritius has everything you could want in a Caribbean getaway—without all of the high ticket price tags and overzealous tourism traps that come with some other popular vacation destinations. Make sure to consider these three reasons to plan your next vacation in Mauritius when putting together your travel itinerary this year!

Getting there is easy
Mauritius is just a 90 minute flight from the east coast of Africa and a mere six hours from London, Paris, or New York. There are many direct flights each week so getting there is easy. In addition, if you want to avoid jetlag before your vacation starts, many airlines offer late-night arrivals that allow you to sleep on the plane and arrive refreshed for your vacation. The beaches are perfect for both sunbathers and surfers, with waves that vary from one beach to another depending on the tide conditions. Whether you’re looking for sandy beaches with lagoons ideal for families or secluded coves where couples can escape into their own private paradise, Mauritius has it all!

There are so many things to do
In addition to the beaches and other tourist hotspots, there are some other attractions that might be worth checking out. If you’re interested in culture, you can visit the Morne Heritage Monument, which is a tribute to the fight against slavery. If you’re looking for something more relaxing, check out one of the many spas around town. And if you’re a foodie, we’ve got good news for you: there’s lots of delicious local cuisine!

The ocean is stunning
Mauritius has one of the most beautiful coastlines, with clear blue water and soft white sand. The island’s coastline is dotted with palm trees and tropical flowers, giving it a lush, green appearance. There are also plenty of activities you can enjoy around the ocean – snorkeling, fishing, kayaking and more! And if you’re looking for a little downtime from all that outdoor activity, there are many luxury resorts available on the island.
Mauritius is known for its amazing food: From its Creole cuisine to its world-famous honeymoon chocolate cake, Mauritian food deserves international acclaim.

Accommodations fit any budget
Mauritius is a great destination for all budgets. There are resorts from luxury, 5-star experience to budget hotels that offer the same level of service and amenities. In addition, each hotel has a different level of cost based on room quality and type of service you want. A few popular hotels include Le Diamant, Bel Ombre Beach Hotel and Jardin Exotique d’Eden Resort & Spa.

The locals are great
The locals are by far the best part about visiting this island nation. They’re always so kind and welcoming, and they’re some of the most hospitable people I’ve ever met. Plus, it’s a great way to learn more about their culture while you’re there! When I was exploring Port Louis, I stumbled across an artisan’s market on my walk home from dinner one night. All of the local vendors were outside with their goods spread out on tarps around them; it was such a cool experience to see all the handmade products that have been passed down through generations right before my eyes.
