Packing for Italy in October: A Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Even if you’re the most organized, perfectly-prepared person in the world, there’s no way to prepare yourself completely for all of the issues that travel might throw at you. What if you get sick? What if it rains? What if you didn’t bring everything you need, but don’t realize until it’s too late? While you can’t plan for every eventuality, starting with a fall capsule wardrobe will help you to be prepared for anything October brings your way!

The Basics
Italy is a popular destination for fall travel, and it’s a great time to explore the country’s beautiful colors and culture. However, if you’re not prepared with the right clothes, packing can become stressful. There are many considerations when deciding what to pack for Italy in October – how warm it will be, how long you’ll be there, and what activities you’ll do. This guide is meant to help you prepare a stylish fall capsule wardrobe that will have you ready no matter what your trip holds.

-A warm coat that can be worn when the temperature dips below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The coat should be able to double as a raincoat or a windbreaker if needed. -A light sweater that can serve as an extra layer underneath the coat, or by itself if the weather is warmer. -A rain jacket with a hood. Umbrellas are not always enough to keep you dry in all weather conditions, especially if you’re caught off guard by sudden showers or gusts of wind.

Dresses and Skirts
-Dresses and skirts are perfect pieces to pack if you want to dress it up a bit. These pieces are also easier to layer with tops and sweaters that you can wear over the top. I would recommend packing more dresses than skirts because they are more versatile; you can use them as a skirt, dress, or cardigan. Also, don’t forget your favorite pair of boots!
-As always, make sure to pack some comfortable flats or sandals!

  1. Pack a pair of black leggings
  2. Pack a pair of denim shorts
  3. Pack a pair of skinny jeans
  4. Pack a couple pairs of comfy shorts
  5. Bring an oversized, cozy sweater to wear on the plane or layering over your swimsuit when at the beach

In order to stay comfortable while sightseeing, pack at least one pair of closed-toe shoes with a rubber sole. This way, you’ll have an option if the streets are wet or if you want to explore an art gallery where the floors can get slippery. I recommend staying away from flip flops and other sandals during your trip as they will only get dirty after walking around all day. Plus, no one wants to step on your toes!

  1. Scarf – a scarf is a perfect accessory to dress up any outfit while still being lightweight and not taking up much space in your bag. I love scarves as they can be worn many different ways to create different looks.
  2. Oversized sweater – an oversized sweater is a must-have for fall, as it will keep you warm and cozy on chilly days, but also chic and fashionable when paired with jeans or skirts.
