Anchorage, Alaska: The Perfect Day Trip Destination

Anchorage, Alaska has everything you could ever want in a day trip destination and more. There are tons of things to do here that you don’t have to go far to find – just take some time to explore the area around where you live, and you’ll be surprised by what you can find! If you’re looking for the perfect day trip from Anchorage, here are three ideas to get you started.

About 47 miles from Anchorage is the Alaska Animals Conservation Center (AWCC), a refuge committed to research, teaching, and care for the local wildlife. This is a fantastic location to observe the behaviour of the saved animals.

Visitors can take tours that give them an overview of the facility, learn about specific creatures, and interact closely with some of the rescued animals, like Luna the caribou and Artemis the muskox calf. Additionally, you might be able to feed the bears.

A two-hour trip from Anchorage will take you to Glacier Panorama, Alaska, which offers a breathtaking view. The place’s strongest asset is concealed in its name: it is situated in the Mat-Su Valley, close to the Matanuska Glacier. Additionally, the glacier offers a point of attraction and a variety of activities, including ATV rides, zip-lining, glacier treks, and ice climbing.

If you enjoy hiking, you might want to think about (weather permitting) travelling to the Chugach State Park, which is just outside of Anchorage. Moose, bears, sheep, and other smaller polar animals could be present. Enjoy the breathtaking vistas while they last! These locations are prime examples of what’s waiting at your doorstep.
These three destinations have been chosen because they all offer unique opportunities that are perfect for first time visitors or long time Alaskans alike. What adventure will you choose?

Eat delicious food at unique restaurants
One of the best things about Anchorage is that there are so many options for good food. You can visit a restaurant down on the waterfront or explore Russian heritage by eating at a banya. It doesn’t matter what type of cuisine you are craving, as long as it’s good and locally-owned you’re bound to find it somewhere. And with everything right in downtown Anchorage, getting anywhere is easy! Rent bikes and enjoy the scenery: If biking isn’t your thing then take a quick ride up Turnagain Arm! Just be sure to bring gloves and waterproof clothing in case it rains (it will).
A great way to experience Alaska without having to go too far from home is by taking a day trip out of town. But if you really want to get away from it all, then head north on the Glenn Highway past Palmer.
