7 Scary Destinations for the Ultimate Halloween Vacation

It’s almost time to celebrate Halloween! If you’re looking for a unique travel experience this year, consider visiting one of these spooky destinations. 1) Transylvania

Transylvania has a rich history of legends, myths and folklore, many of which are said to be haunted. The region is steeped in vampire lore, dating back to medieval times when Vlad Țepeș (better known as Vlad the Impaler) was ruling. There are tours available that take you on a journey through his castle and tell you about how he supposedly became a vampire himself.

2) Gettysburg

Gettysburg is a city in Pennsylvania that was once home to one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. George Washington National Historic Park is located here and offers visitors an opportunity to explore America’s history. There are many historical sites in Gettysburg, including monuments, cemeteries and battlefields. The town has also become known as haunted due to its spooky atmosphere and its close proximity to other haunted destinations like Baltimore, MD.

3) The Island of Poveglia

Poveglia is a small island in the Venetian Lagoon off of Venice, Italy. Once home to a thriving community, it was invaded by Napoleon and then abandoned after World War I. Ever since then, it has been said that Poveglia is haunted by ghosts and evil spirits. Visitors have reported hearing screams and seeing faces in windows. There are also rumors of bodies buried on the property that were never claimed or identified.

4) Sedlec Ossuary

The Sedlec Ossuary, also known as the Church of Bones, is a small Roman Catholic chapel and ossuary located in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic. The building is composed entirely of human bones that are artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings. When a new body was added to the bone collection it was first laid out on a table until all of its joints were disarticulated. Then all flesh and muscle was removed from the bones which were then cleaned with boiling water.

Built in 1868 by Lizzie Borden’s father, this house is said to be haunted. Visitors have reported seeing strange lights and hearing unexplained knocking sounds on the inside.

6) Six Flags Great Adventure Fright Fest

Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ hosts a fright fest from September 22nd to October 31st. The attraction is open from 6pm-11pm Friday and Saturday nights with shorter hours on Sunday.
Fright Fest includes haunted houses, live shows, and of course wild rides like El Toro (the tallest wooden roller coaster in the world), Kingda Ka (the fastest ride in North America), and El Diablo.

7) Winchester Mystery House

Built by Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, this sprawling mansion was constructed in an attempt to ward off death. She continuously expanded and rebuilt it over 40 years as she believed that construction would keep her family safe from harm. Nowadays, visitors can tour the oddball mansion and learn about its many secrets.
