3 Cape Town Spots for the Passionate Museum Lover

Some say that museums are boring and educational, but if you’re anything like me, you could spend days learning about different cultures and people from the past and present. Even though I live in Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, there are still plenty of museums that I haven’t had the chance to visit yet. Here are three spots in Cape Town that have the best museums to visit if you’re passionate about museums too!

1) Iziko South African Museum

Founded in 1825, the Iziko South African Museum is the country’s oldest museum and one of its most popular tourist destinations. The museum houses over a million items, including an extensive natural history collection and a wide range of cultural artifacts. Visitors can also view the world’s largest collection of African penguins.

2) District Six Museum

The District Six Museum is a must-see for any museum lover visiting Cape Town. The museum tells the story of the vibrant multicultural community that was forcibly removed from District Six during apartheid. The exhibits are moving and informative, and the museum does an excellent job of conveying the pain and loss of this dark period in South African history.
